FED: Govt to press Indonesia for E Timor self determination

CANBERRA, Jan 12 AAP - The federal government today said it had made a policy change and
would press Indonesia for an act of self-determination for East Timor.

Acting Prime Minister Tim Fischer said there was a challenging pathway ahead, but Prime
Minister John Howard was keen to push for peace in the province.

"The government has made a policy change," Mr Fischer told the Nine Network.
