Fed: Clark suspended as ATSIC Commissioner

CANBERRA, Aug 13 AAP - Aboriginal leader Geoff Clark was today suspended from his postas chairman of Australia's peak indigenous body ATSIC on the grounds of misbehaviour.

Indigenous Affairs Minister Philip Ruddock said Mr Clark's suspension followed hisconviction earlier this year for obstructing police and behaving in a riotous manner inpublic.

"I have today suspended Mr Geoff Clark as a Commissioner and Chairman of the Aboriginaland Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC) on the grounds of misbehaviour as providedfor under Section 40 of the ATSIC Act 1989," Mr Ruddock said in a statement.
