VIC:Vic won't slow population boom: Baillieu

Victoria's premier says traffic congestion and overcrowded public transport won't go
away for some time .. and there are no plans to put up a stop sign to newcomers.

The government has pledged to improve infrastructure in regional centres to encourage
people to live outside the capital .. as Melbourne's population growth leads the nation
for the ninth year running.

At the current pace .. Melbourne will be the country's largest city in 10 years ..

with its outer suburbs growing faster than any other part of Australia.

Premier TED BAILLIEU says a booming population is good for Victoria and he doesn't
want to stymie growth .. but overcrowded public transport and road congestion will be
an issue for some time .. due to a lack of investment by the former Labor government.
