TOKYO, June 6 Asia Pulse - Highlights of today's newspapers:

NIKKEI DAILY:

- The welfare ministry has sent to prefectural governments in areas affected by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami a guideline for their municipalities to refer to in determining their official death tolls, ministry officials said Monday.

- The Tokyo metropolitan government introduced summertime working hours for its employees Monday to help the capital's economy reduce electricity consumption due to expected supply shortages amid the ongoing nuclear crisis.

- The leader of a business group said Monday that the government will eventually have to set an upper limit for the amount of compensation Tokyo Electric Power Co. (9501) will pay for the accident at its Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

YOMIURI DAILY:

- Sharp Corp. and Panasonic Corp., the nation's two leading flat-panel TV makers, are scaling back domestic production as they struggle to compete with South Korean rivals.
